Physical quantities like displacement, velocity, force, temperature, and so on are not electrical.

An active transducer transforms physical quantities into electrical signals. In contrast, a passive transducer turns the physical quantity into a variable in the passive element. 

If a body moves in a straight line from one point to another, the distance between them is referred to as displacement. The SI unit of displacement is meter (m).

So, depending on the demand, we can use either an active or passive transducer. In this post, we will look at how to measure displacement using a passive transducer.

The term “displacement measurement” refers to the shift in position that an object experienced. Its value is the result of subtracting the final position from the initial position, and this result might be either positive, negative, or zero. The term “distance” refers to the overall amount of time that the object has travelled.
